Product Details

A grand antique Edwardian Albert chain made up of solid silver curb links, each stamped with a sterling lion mark and gilded in a bright 18ct yellow gold. It’s complete with the traditional double claw clasp, a T-bar and an additional length of chain at the end that would usually hold a pendant or medallion.

Albert chains were named after Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s consort and were traditionally worn by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the first World War who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope they’d return home safely.

It's a wonderful antique Albert chain, and each component bears Chester hallmarks, dating to 1908/ 1909 and the maker’s mark belonging to jeweller Edwin Page.
